What Does Philosophy Mean?

Definition of Philosophy.

In malay, the word 'Falsafah' originated from Arabic, فلسفة Falsafah. That word in turn came from the Greek philosophia, the root word of that is philosophein. Philo means love, while Sophia means wisdom. Combining both, the word becomes the 'love of wisdom', or love of understanding and wisdom as a human characteristic. The term philosophy was used by Phythagoras, a famous Greek mathematician around the 500a BCE, who called himself a philosophos or lover of wisdom.
